The Nine Emperor Gods Festival (also known as Jiu Wang Ye in Mandarin) is an annual celebration dedicated to vegetarianism, good behaviour and self-purification. Practising followers do this to ask the Nine Emperor Gods to cure illnesses, provide wealth, longevity and to drive away misfortune. It is celebrated from the first to the ninth day of the ninth lunar month.
This year, that falls from the 17th of October to the 25th of October.
Most devotees observe vegetarianism for the entire nine days.
