For A Cleaner Ocean

Free them from plastics, choose to refuse.

About eight million tonnes of plastic waste are dumped into the world’s oceans every year, the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic being tipped into the sea every minute of every day.

More than half comes from five Asian countries: China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, according to a 2015 Ocean Conservancy report.

It takes up 200 years for a plastic straw to decompose, and they can’t be recycled in most places.

"It's just one straw," said 8 billion people. We are led to believe that we alone can not make a change to the environment. That is entirely untrue. In order to see the world change, we must first be the change. It all begins with a single intention that leads to a powerful action.

The Impact of Plastics
These plastics don't biodegrade, so they break up into tiny pieces that are consumed by fish and sea mammals. More than 100,000 marine animals die from ingesting plastics.

50% of sea turtles are ingesting plastic at an unprecedented rate and dying because of it.

Plastic straws are among the top 10 common objects collected during beach clean ups. It does so much harm to seabirds, turtles and other marine creatures. Plastic straws are often left on beaches and seaside resorts globally, littered or blown out of trash cans.

We cannot change the past, but we can create a better future.

It could be as simple as saying "Without a straw, please!" the next time you order your drinks. You could also leave a note or advise the servers and restaurant owners to switch to a “straws on request” policy, rather than dropping off straws when they’re not asked for.
